Shawn Augustson, an electronics engineering student started ArduinoFun.com in the Fall of 2008 as a way of sharing information and learning about the Arduino open source prototyping platform.
I have always had an interest in how things worked, and as a young child was known to tear apart stuff to find out what made it do what it did. After high school I went to college for Graphic Design and Illustration with a minor in Interactive Multimedia. From there I had my own graphic design business for several years, until I decided to join the US Army and see the world.
I have been all over the US as well as Ireland, Germany, Kuwait, Iraq and a few other countries… While serving in Iraq I was injured, and decided to pursue a new career. Since my military occupational specialty dealt with some electronics, I decided to obtain my degree in Electronics Engineering through the help of the VA Rehabilitation Program. Around this same time, my son and I were working on a science fair project and discovered the Arduino.
After working with the Arduino, it furthered my interest in electronics… there seemed to be a natural fit between electronics and art, both areas that interested me. I started the ArduinoFun.com blog with my son and together we started working on projects together. Finding the Arduino and the community that is growing along with it has been very inspiring. I am currently teaching classes on the Arduino through a non-profit organization called the Fuse Factory (The Fuse Factory is an art and technology initiative focused on cultivating artistic production, research, and experimentation with digital media and electronic tools).
